Recently I was tested for Stds because I have been having frequent UTI's and the doc thought it was a good idea to rule out an infection as a possibility. Everything was negative.

Well, it made me wonder something about bacterial Stds.
Suppose a person has one and doesn't know, would it be possible for it to go away if they took antibiotics for another condition, like a uti?

Are antibiotics that generic? Or would the infection stay until they took a certain kind designed just for the std?

I hope that makes sense.

it's a good question, and yes, an std would most likely be treated by any antibiotic taken for a uti, however, because the antibiotic was in effect fighting two infections, it would likely kill neither of them and they would recur, which is why, with your recurrent uti, the doctor also checked you for std.

Yes, with a but....certain antibiotics treat certain infections much better. And certain antibiotics are stronger than others. Amoxycillian is a typical all-purpose antibiotic that's used for many different things. It would likely serve its duel purpose, but it might not work as well on either, especially if you had a stronger UTI. If you used one of those knock-em-dead second string antibiotics (often used for pesky drug resistent strains), you'd have a stronger chance of fully clearing both issues. Of course, you wouldn't know if you needed that.

You would have to take the one that works for that specific STD and for the length of time needed to cure it in order for it to go away without you knowing it. You mentioned frequent UTI's so be sure when you have one that they CULTURE your urine so they know what antibiotic will actually take care of it. Also be sure to drink lots of cranberry juice daily or use cranberry capsules daily and vitamin C.
