Not one myself but did some searching...

This may be a good link to you as it has enormous and vast lists of what shouldn't be eaten. Just reading it makes me hungry-anyway!

It has Gelatin (which I think is tiny fish bones or something).

"GELATIN: Sometimes Gel. Protein obtained by boiling skin, tendons, ligaments or bones with water, from cattle and hogs. Used in shampoos, face masks, other cosmetics. Used as a thickener for fruit gelatins and puddings (Jello-brand desserts). In candies, marshmallows, cakes, ice cream, yogurts. On photographic film as a coating and in vitamins as capsules. Sometimes used to assist in "clearing" wines. Alternatives: algae and seaweed (carrageen/ Irish Moss, algin, agar-agar, kelp), Gelozone, used in jellies, plastics, medicines, pectin from fruit, dextrins, locust bean gum and cotton gum. Marshmallows were originally made from the root of the marshmallow plant."

Yeah, explore that site...it's expansive.

I am a vegetarian as well, and I congratulate you to being such a sensible person when it comes to food.

With regards to chewing gum I have no idea if it contains any material that derives from animals. In fact, I couldn't care less as in my personal opinion the chewing of gum is one of the most uncivilised activities ever invented in the USA.
It is also responsible for massive environmental pollution, as millions of these gum pieces are regularly dropped to the ground in our streets by brainless chewers.

You would do yourself and all of society a great service if you would stop chewing gum. I would suggest that you think about it and donate the money you save that way to a good cause of your choice.

I recently found out about a totally vegan gum called B-Fresh. (www.bfreshgum.com). It's available at Pangea (www.veganstore.com). It's sugar free, but sweetened with xylitol. The bubble gum flavor is awesome--and you can blow some pretty good-sized bubbles.

Many gums have animal-based glazes and lanolin in the gum base. I have heard that Wrigley's brands are suitable for vegans.

Sainsbury's Basics Sugar-Free Whitening Gum is suitable for vegetarians (carries the symbol) and is cheap. It comes in a bag instead of a tube or carton. It tastes good and I am chewing some now.

If you are really serious about being healthy dont use sugarfree chewing gums. Chew real mint or spearmint leaves or just plain ol sugary gum. Good luck in finding some, they dont exist in the uk.
Why cant they just invent a normal gum that tastes of spearmint & is not sweet at all just natural.

yes, be careful, but you can get it without - just check the ingrediants and check for the green "V"

From the Vegetarian society information sheet : Chewing gum Often contain glycerine. Wrigleys use a vegetable glycerine

Glycerine/Glycerol May be produced from animal fats, synthesised from propylene or from fermentation of sugars.

Hope this helps

Yes, some gums have glycerine, which is usually produced from animals. Wrigley's gum has a vegetable-based form of glycerine, however.
