It's really quite simple. If it used to be alive, you don't eat it. That still leaves pasta, beans, cheeses, grains... a plethora of interesting and filling tofu-free food choices.

Soda has no meat. Neither do peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, or beer for that matter. It is possible to be a "junk-food vegetarian" and this will NOT help you lose weight. Consuming lots of fresh fruits and vegetables will.

Also, if getting healthy is your aim, more water and less soda is a good place to start!

Good luck!

It sounds to me like you are not mentally prepared on becoming a vegetarian. Becoming a vegetarian takes alot of discipline, will power and effort. You can't just wake up and say "I am going vegan." when your body is so used to eating meat.
First off what kind of vegetarian do you plan on becoming. A strict vegan doesn't eat anything with animal anything in it. You will also need the protein that meats provide for you. You need to eat alot of beans and/or take a vitamin supplement. You can also eat healthier by not taking meats from your diet. Try the leaner meats if eating healthier is your goal. Try talking to your doctor or a nutritionist to see if that helps.

If your serious about being vegetarian, it may be advisable to adopt the diet of a vegetarian culture. This way you will get entire meals rather then trying to throw meals together. Also a balanced diet is important. I would recommend Indian food and find a good indian grocery store to help you out. Chinese food is also very adaptable to vegetarian cooking. Good Luck.

o.k. it's not all that easy, especially if your at the average American diet. if you are really serious- do it safely- there is such a thing called a "Transitional" diet" go online put in search bar "Ann Wigmore" i used to study with her some 25 plus yrs ago. she has recipes, full on programs to change your diet safely, the info that comes up available is great for some one in your position. no kidding - i've been a veggie for nearly 30 yrs., and would recomend her programs to anyone intrested in becoming vegan or vegg. hope this helps :)

You should stop drinking a lot of soda, no matter what diet you choose. Soda contains high fructose corn syrup which is very unhealthy.

there are lots of fat vegetarians out there if you eat cheese, greasy fries, salads with lots of fatty dressings...you can eat meat & eat healthy, grilled chicken or fish are very healthy for you. it doesn't sound like to want to cut out meat for the right reasons.
