my granddad has to have a pacemaker put in on wednesday. does anyone know how long he will have to stay in the hospital? what will his recovery be like? he is in his early 80's and has some valve replacements already. thank you.

the insertion is a simple procedure and doesn't take that long, his recovery will likely be uneventful and he will likely be very bored. They will keep him only as long as it takes to be sure the pacemaker if functioning as it should. Possibly 3 days if that long, hospitals are sending people home sooner and sooner these days.

Difficult to answer.

I had open heart surgery followed by a defibrillator. I was in the hospital three days for the defibrillator

Depends totally upon a person's health, I would estimate 3-5 days.

If the pacemaker is functioning well they will keep him under observation for 3 - 5 days provided no complications occar.

he can go home in a couple of days. now pacemaker implantation is a minor operation as compare to valve replacement. enjoy.
