Hi Bethy, Great question.
We pray in Jesus'name because He is our intercessor in heaven not Mary as many will tell you.
Paul writes in Hebrews 4:14-16 "Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
It is Jesus who presents our prayers to The Father and makes them acceptable because we are sinful and can only have access to the throne of grace through Jesus.
"Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 2:4,5.
Also, "Jesus said to him (Thomas), “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6.
I hope that this has been of some help to you.
God Bless.
H'chat.

I like this question, I also like many of the answers; Christ is the mediator, the HIGH PRIEST, this one is right on the mark and an outstanding understanding of why we pray in the name of the Son of God.
But I must ask a question, if Jesus is also god then would and if the Holy Spirit is also god and the Father is God and we pray to God which one are we really praying too and how would you know or are we praying to all three when they make up god?

Personally, the trinity is really confusing here when it comes to praying.

Peace and Grace
David

In Him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. His is the name given whereby men shall be saved. There is no other name in heaven and on earth and under the earth that is higher. He is the mediator between God and men. He is also our High Priest in the heavens ministering before God on our behalf. He is at the incense alter adding to our prayers as a sweet smelling savor to the Father.
Praise the Lord that we can be called by Him to love Him and give our all for Him

Jesus told us to. Joh 16:26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:. This is one of many scriptures that say this.

Because Jesus is the only person in heaven that knows what I'm talking about, and knows what I'm going through!

Hi Beth.

I think this verse sums it up.

John 14:6 (King James Version)

" Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me".

Jesus died for our sins and HE paid the price for our freedom in Christ. Because of Jesus we can be saved, and without Jesus we would have no chance of ever being saved. ALl fall short of the glory of God.
Because of Jesus, we have it all, Without Him, we have nothing. WE pray to God thru Jesus the son, and all things are given to us because of the son and thru the son . so we always say In Jesus name, becuase it all goes thru Him. WE couldnt even stand before God without Jesus Christ. HE is the one that makes all things possible.
Aways remember to pray to the father thru the son and remember to say In Jesus Name, because without Him, nothing is possible.
Oh how I love Jesus. I just wish the whole world knew Him. I pray it for you all, but its a choice to receive Jesus or not. All a preciius Choice. JEsus died for all of us, please done turn down the free gift Jesus offers us all... Please..

because through Jesus (Christ) we can communicate to God. When he died on the cross he made it possible so that we can come to the father's throne through him. we must grasp this advantage and thank or acknowledge him..thus we pray through Jesus's name.
eg. Dear father God,
I come to u through your son Jesus.

Jesus was sent to the earth and was sacrificed for all our sins, We pray through him because it is through him that we can gain everlasting life. He in essence is the go between from us to god.
