I made a smiley face in oatmeal once, does that mean a vegetarian couldn't eat it?

Everyone seems to be answering very quickly without consideration. Yes, typical chicken broth or chicken stock DOES contain chicken and probably shouldn't be consumed by a vegetarian.
However, as a vegan, I use a vegetable-based chicken bouillon powder to make up the broth. I live in Australia and the brand is Massel. It has NO ANIMAL CONTENT. Look for these words on the side of a package.
Good luck, and if you want to eat chicken broth, that's your choice. Don't let labels like vegan and vegetarian rule your life. Make smart choices.

Not a real vegetarian, though there are a lot of people who call themselves vegetarian and don't care about things like that. That's because it still contains animal flesh and vegetarians cannot eat that. I know to some people it may sound silly, but most vegetarians do it for the animals, and clearly you can't make broth from an animal without killing them. So it's not any better than eating meat.

It's chicken, and vegetarians do NOT eat chicken.
There are faux chicken broths--just read the label to make sure it doesn't have any animal ingredients in it. And tracelicious is right -- mushroom broth or bouillion is a great sub for beef broth.

I wouldn't. Chicken broth is the same as chicken meat as far as I'm concerned.
Your last comment is just silly. If you drew the face with your finger I wouldn't eat it because I'd wonder if you washed your hands. Go back and check the answers to the hundreds of times people asked "Can Vegetarians eat animal crackers?"

No, chicken is chicken no matter what form you find it in at the store. Vegetarians use vegetable broth or mushroom broth.

No meat or meat products for the vegetarian, the vegan doesn't use any products from animals including cheeses, eggs, butter and milk...so if you are making vegetarian soup you can use a vegetable stock instead of chicken stock, also found in can or carton...

No, it contains chicken. There is vegetable broth, or vegetable bullion cubes that can be used to make soup.

no no and no. processed foods have derivatives from animal fats.
read the labels.. learn what the ingredients mean and where they come from.
most likely that oatmeal had something in it from an animal also... over 90% of additives come from animal... whether it's straight out fat or a derivative processed into a preservative or a flavor agent... (among other things as binders, things that make foods smoother.. keep them from drying out.. from getting sticky.. tolerance to heat in transport and so on...)
it's an old system.. and the old system is primarily animal based.. why? because it's available in mass, it's easy, cheaper and the system is hard to change... it cost money to change things.
there.
