We have been invited to an 80's theme party where the guests were asked to dress in the style of that decade. I want to join in the fun, but don't want to spend a bunch of money on clothes I might not ever wear again. Need ideas for female and male guests. Thanks!

While I did grow up in the 80's, I think I had blocked out some of the bad fashion trends...which appear to be making a comeback! Keep the great suggestions coming!

I dressed up as an 80's punk rocker chick about five years ago, and I just went to local thrift stores to find a stuff. It will be a lot easier to find stuff now b/c the 80's are back in style. I wore hot pink leggings with black leg warmers and black high heels. I had a torn black rocker t-shirt with an old vintage jean jacket. Then I crimped all of my hair (it was really poofy!), and I found a hot pink elastic head band from the 80's. I also found pins at Hot Topic to put on my jacket. For guys, the MIami Vice look was cool, check out that old show or maybe watch The Wedding Singer to get some more ideas. Have fun!

Saturday morning get up early and go to some garage sales and then to the Salvation Army and Goodwill. Go this weekend. The closer you get to Halloween, the more picked over everything gets. You should be able to get some really good outfits cheap. Girls should dress like Madonna did back in the 80's. Google some of the 80's bands. You will see big hair, etc. This should be really fun.

How about dressing like Madonna? She wore a lot of black mesh tops back in the day with a tank underneath, tease your hair and wear a similar hairband and a bunch of jelly bracelets and a long cross necklace of some sort,, She was way into spandex back in the day,, so was everyone,, or boy george,, just dress in drag..

Try visiting Thrift Shops, where a lot of outdated clothing ends up, and can usually be bought pretty cheap. It's what I did when I was invited to a 70's party.
Break-Dancing and the Electric Slide are essentials for the party.

Female - get a blazer or button up blouse and put some shoulder pads in it. Wear jeans that are tapered tight around the ankle and war reebok tennis shoes.
Male - parachute pants, zcavarrichi pants or jeans tapered tight around the bottom with tennis shoes or boat shoes. Top could be a t-shirt and maybe he could wait a painters cap.

As everyone has suggested, look in thrift stores. This guide might help you with your search.
Over sized tee shirts with plastic clips to hold the excess fabric on the side.
3/4 length leggings or leg warmers.
Exercise gear.
Big shoulder pads in everything.
Big, big hair.
Acid or stone washed skinny jeans.
For men, think ' punk rock ' with a mullet or spiked hair and skinny jeans.

Nothing happened in the eighties. Nothing at all.
Get some shoulder pads and bug hair.
