It's estimated about 75 - 80% of the WORLD has HPV! BILLIONS of people have the virus and I can guarantee you that all those people don't stop having sex just because they have HPV.

There are certain things a person can do to help prevent spreading the virus, like using condoms. There is also a new vaccine out for HPV called Gardasil. Right now it's only approved for young women and can prevent contracting 4 different kinds of HPV (two are known to cause about 70% of cervical cancer cases and the other two are known to cause about 90% of genital wart cases).

The main concern with HPV is the cervical cancer it can cause for women. With proper screenings though, like pap smears, abnormalities on the cervix are usually caught and treated in time before they turn into precancerous cells or cancer.

Take care!

HPV is very common and usually clears up on its own. It does not mean you can never have sex again. You might want you use a condom if you have any warts or other visible symptoms. Probably more than half of the sexually active people in the US have HPV. The serious kind can cause cervical cancer, but not every woman has that kind.

HPV does cause symptoms, no matter what that other person said. If you have HPV, you need to keep it monitored and get yearly paps to make sure you are not getting any problems because of the HPV (are you a male or female?). HPV in men rarely causes symptoms, but in women, it can cause all kinds of problems, but it doesn't mean you have to stop having sex. Just make sure your partner knows about the virus you have and that he/she is okay with having intercourse after that. (remember that knowing you have a disease, and then not telling a sexual partner about it which results in medical complications for your partner, you could be held liable for it). Honesty is everything

Absolutely not - but you do need to be honest with whoever you're planning on sleeping with. There are almost 100 strains of HPV and only 4 or so are visible. Men can spread it and not even know they have it. Women get papsmears which generally tests for HPV (seeing as it can lead to cervical cancer), there is no test for men (at least that I know of).

Someone said meet someone that has it. Here's a link

HPV does not make symptoms. So having sex is okay. Free sex, however, communicate this virus.

No, that's silly. If you have the strain that has warts you just need to be REALLY carefull and the other person needs to know you have it before you have sex. You just need to use a condom and be careful that's all. Promise.
