I'm trying to think of what type of food would work well if it didn't stay warm...

Also, what types of food to make and/or buy that's a bit more trendier than the usual cook-out type foods....

Thanks : )

Heres what I would do:

Main meal: You could make a cold wrap ahead of time. Use your favorite thinly sliced lunch meat ( or hummus if you are a vegetarian) Add in grated cheese, carrot, peppers, etc (anything to add color) Instead of using plain boring mayo, you could make an avocado lime spread or spice up the mayo with cracked pepper and some honey mustard.

Grab your favorite kind of tortilla, fill it with your chosen fillings. Fold in the sides and roll up from the bottom. Voila, you have a "trendy", not so ordinary meal. It will look pretty also.

Dessert: Cut up watermelon, strawberries, grapes.... etc. Get some cool whip or even some whipped cream in a can. What's nice about this is the oppurtunity to feed each other. And we all know that can be pretty darn romantic!

Hope this helps!

You need to take into consideration who you are feeding and food preferences for him/her. Picnic foods range from the very basic fried chicken and potato salad to the exotic couscous and falafil. Here are some items that I have enjoyed taking on picnics:

1. Chicken skewers and peanut dipping sauce
2. Asian coleslaw with chopped peanuts and sesame seeds
3. Chicken tortilla soup, kept warm in thermos's and served in mugs.
4. Flatbread (or tortilla) sandwiches with smoked turkey, havarti, lemon aioli, butter lettuce and thinly sliced cucumbers, rolled up and cut into slices.
5. Potato Rosemary bread and sweet butter
6. Cheeses such as Spanish Manchenga, Mushroom brie, Fontina, Dill Havarti
7. Red potato salad with Italian vinagrette
8. Muffaletta sandwiches
9. Baked ham with a variety of mustards and sliced bread
10. Brownies and oatmeal cookies, half dipped in chocolate and drizzled with white chocolate.
