i know waht the colors mean,

but when i am not sick
in the mornings i feel like i have to clear my thorught or "hock a lugy" and when i spit it out it is a real dark green color...

and green means an infection...

does that mean i always have an infection?

No. It doesn't mean that you always have an infection. Sometimes the throat needs to clear it's self even if you dont have an infection/ cough etc. It's a good sign. Unless more of it is coming up your throat then you may have had an infection, now cleared.

I have always thought phlegm is a white if its healthy
yellow if there is infection which could be a sign of the flu
green brown for sign of infection
rusty if this is pneumonia

You could have a sinus infection, due to allergies or the begining of a head cold. Your dr. will give you either a nose spray or antibiotics.

You most likely do have an infection. Call your doc and ask to get a sputum culture ordered to check this out.
