So, I'm considering a vegitarian lifestyle, but I work out a lot and am concerned about my protien intake... any advice? I'm a 26 year old female, 5'7'', 133 lbs. I workout 6 days a week for 1.5 hours a day (which includes a 5 min. jogging warmup, 25 mins of strength training, 40 minutes of cardio, and then abs and stretching).

I don't care for cheese, but I'm great with soy products- will soy/peanut butter/etc. provide me with enough protein?

Thanks for your help!

I buy silken tofu and mix it in everything for protein. Some examples are: mashed potatoes, pot pie, mac & cheese, pasta sauce, etc. You can't even taste it and it's so easy to just mash it up and put in in the foods I'm making anyway. I also eat a lot of morningstar farms products.

I would consult a dietitian just to make sure. You work out a lot (which is good) but you probably require more protein then the normal person who doesn't have that much activity.Do you like eggs? I know some veggies believe in them and some don't. I guess it depends on why you are going veggie (health vs ethics), but I would still consult someone to see. You might actually check with your gym because a lot of gyms have contracts with registered dietitians. Good Luck!

P.S. You are my hero for working out that much! I wish I could.

Yes, you can get plenty of protien from soy/any bean/nuts and whole grains.

Try putting peanut butter on your waffles or pancakes YUM!! Easy and tasty way to sneak a little extra protien into breakfast!!

Yes, legumes like soy and peanuts contain lots of protein. You should also include sufficient foods from the grain family (not necessarily daily).

Before you work out make your favorite smoothie, add some silken tofu in it, can't taste it and you get extra protein.

Glad you like soy products ... you're going to be eating tons of it and other plant life to make up the protein you can get from small amounts of meat and a balanced flexarian diet.

Good luck "Vegg O"

No - everyone needs a little meat every once in a while.
