do you use antenolol to lower your blood pressure? how many mg's? and what's the highest amount of mg's you know of anyone taking a day?

ADULTS

Hypertension

The usual starting dose is 50 milligrams a day in 1 dose, alone or with a diuretic. Full effects should be seen in 1 to 2 weeks. Dosage may be increased to a maximum of 100 milligrams per day in one dose. Your doctor can and may use Atenolol with other high blood pressure medications.

Angina Pectoris

The usual starting dose is 50 milligrams in 1 dose a day. Full effects should be seen in 1 week. Dosage may be increased to a maximum of 100 milligrams per day. In some cases, a single dose of 200 milligrams per day may be given. Dosage will be individualized by your doctor.

Heart Attack

This medication may be used in the acute treatment of heart attack. Your doctor will determine the proper dosage.

If you have kidney problems, the doctor will start you with the lowest effective dose, usually 25 milligrams once a day up to a maximum of 50 milligrams daily.

Atenolol is a beta blocker, and is sometimes used to treat hypertension. I know of one person who is taking 100 mg. daily.

I take 50mg atenolol & 360mg verapamil a day (ahhhh)
my blood pressure is WAYYY low. I dont take these drugs to lower my blood pressure, but they do.

Yes, it acts on beta receptors of the heart; resulting in slowing of heart rate.This in turn lowers BP.
Normal smallest dose is 50 mg/day.
Patients with high malignant dose can be given 100 mg/day, or even 200mg/day in divided doses.
Normally try to avoid 200 mg /day add a new ACE Inhibitor or diuretic , the condition will settle down.
I have only seen 2 patients on 200mg/day, and that too in CCU, for temporary period. Than Modified the treatment as he was liable to go in bradycardia.
