The FDA recommends keeping saturated fats less than 10% of total calories, so for a diet of 2500 calories per day, 25 g is the limit. The American Heart association recommends avoiding saturated fats all together and instead try increasing the amount of unsaturated fats. Unsaturated fats are believed to help reduce cholesterol.

Let's consider the diet of those from early last century; lots of butter, lard, dripping, cream eggs, raw milk. No one cut the fat off their meat. Lean was not a term associated with food. The prized beast for slaughter was the fattest. Saturated fat everywhere. Nobody knew what cholesterol was, or cared. Why didn't they care? Because heart attack and stroke was virtually unheard of in people under the age of 60.

everyone is different. your intake of nutrients depends on your body structure. it is best to keep fats at only 20-30% of your diet though. 50-60% should be carbs (but good, complex carbs), and protein should be about 10-15%. if you have high cholesterol then you should start thinking about things you may eat in excess, such as alcohol, coffee, or sugar foods. and also add in something healthier like oatmeal or cherrios for breakfast.
