The STD that causes genital warts and possibly cancer (depending on the strain)?
How long ago, and do you know if it's gone?
They say it never goes away, but who knows for sure?

[just asking]

honestly i was asking because I had the genital warts back in 1997 and after I had them removed they never came back. from then to now i heard many different things about like the virus never goes away (kind of like the herpes virus, i only have simplex 1) and that it can shed after a period of time.

thanks for you guys answers, i look forward to more.

Alli, that was HIGHLY informative and had me thinking of the power of the mind/body and how it can fight things off. So many people are given meds and doctors tell them "there is no cure" etc. I don't depend on the Dr. for everything just tests and major stuff.

BTW, did I mention that with my last pap and STD test i was negative and no warts were found inside and out?

and for you, you take care and thanks for the info.

I was diagnosed with HPV when I was 17 years old. The VERY first pap smear I ever had came back abnormal and I was told I had precancerous cells on my cervix. I'm sure I had the virus for a while and just never realized it.

My precancerous cells turned into cervical cancer, but because the doctors had caught it so early I only had to have part of my cervix removed and didn't have to go through chemotherapy or have a hysterectomy (thank god).

About 5 years later I developed genital warts, treated them, and haven't had a problem since.

There is NO "cure" for HPV because it is a virus, however, most women are able to get rid of the virus on their own. Their bodies can basically "fight it off" and get rid of it.

When most people think of a "cure" they think of getting rid of something with drugs, therapy, natural remedies, etc. So, since there are no drugs or therapy to actually rid the virus from the body then there is technically no "cure".

Since HPV is a virus though, and there are no cures for viruses, some people will have the virus their entire life and are unable to get rid of it. And, just because a person might have gotten rid of the virus doesn't mean they can't contract it again in the future.

Take care!

I was diagnosed with HPV in 2005. I do not have the strain that causes the genital warts though, thank goodness. There are many different strains of the virus. I had an abnormal pap test after the birth of my son in Dec. of 2004 and at my post partum visit is when I had the abnormal pap test. I had to go in for a special test where they put this solution on your cervix and whatever turns white is taken off and sent out to be tested for pre-cancerous cells. I had no suspicious areas that needed to be removed so that was good news and they did anonther PAP test which then came back clear. My GYN said that everything looked very healthy and told me to come back in a year, which I just did. I actually had my annual pap yesterday as a matter of fact and my GYN said everything looks great. They won't have the results of my pap for a week or so but he said since my last pap was clear, that this one is likely to be clear as well.

He said that HPV is very common in sexually active women and there are so many strains of the virus. Some strains cause the warts, some can lead to cervical cancer but there really is only a handful of these strains that cause cancer. I don't think it ever completely goes away, but it sure seems like mine is dormant. It hasn't shown up on my pap's in 2 years and I am very healthy according to my gynecologist.

Hope this helps!

I was diagnosed with the Human Papaloma Virus, or Genital Warts about 10 years ago. I had many complications with it until I went to a health food store and bought some stuff called "100% Pure Tea Tree Oil." The woman at the health food store told me that if I put 20 undiluted drops of Tea Tree Oil on the end of a tampon, and leave it inside me for 24 hours every other day for two weeks, I would cure myself of them. I was desperate because I had already had several surgeries and at one point, I was at the last stage just before you get cervical cancer! So, I went home and did what the woman said. To this day, I no longer have any paps smears come back bad, and I have never had any doctor find any warts at all in or on me since. I know it sounds to good to be true, but it is the truth. Do a google search on Tea Tree Oil and Genital Warts/Human Papaloma Virus and you will see that I am not making this up.

I got identified with herpes (type 2) about 3 yrs ago, when I was still in college and had a dumb one-night stand. I understand loads of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and all of a sudden it seemed like I was going to have to live with the implications for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date men again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/7SHfj everything got better.

Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just a week ago, in front of everybody in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This system provided me the chance to be happy and experience true love again. Now I hope that I can help others by sharing this story.

i was diagnosed with HPV when i was 15. i am now 25. i still have it. i don't have outbreaks no more, but i still have the virus. it could cause cervical cancer. that's why it's important to have yearly pap smears. the virus will never go away, but it's very manageable and able to live with. hope this helps.
