I've been on Metformin for several years, & think I'm getting side-effects. I asked the doctor to switch me to something else, & he prescribed Actos. What's your experience?

I took Metformin and my stomach suffered! I feel your pain.

I started taking glipizide, which worked great for a while, but my doctor thought adding another drug would help so she prescribed actos.

Actos is awful!!! It did not help me with bg hardly at all, it gave me joint pain and I also started gaining weight (keeping in mind that my diet has been the same and I do excercise).

Keep in mind that every body is different, it might work great for you.

i am going from actors and insulin to a new pill jun via and deforming combined in one pill. Actors has been given a black box for possible cardiac problems. I gained weight on actos. If your doctor gives you the pill ask him about the cardiac side affect, if he said it is ok, or maybe he will give you a water pill to help get rid of some of the fluid you are retaining (if this is a problem, it was with me), it is your doctor and if you trust your doctor you make the decision on weather you are to take the pill or not not anyone else I trust my doc I do what he tells me but i also question him and tell him what i hear from others and let him know when something scares me good luck

My Mom was taking Metformin and thankfully her internist was also a kidney specialist, because after taking it for a year, her kidneys were shutting down and we had to get her to the hospital immediately. That quick action saved her kidneys from failing. The doctor said that was a very common side effect to Metformin, and that it was the diabetes drug with the most side effects. So you very likely are having side effects. Good luck with the new meds...

Actos tablets contain the active ingredient pioglitazone hydrochloride, which is a type of medicine called a thiazolidinedione or glitazone. It is used to help control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.

High blood levels of glucose can cause several problems, including frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, weight loss, and blurry vision. However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all. How to treat diabetes naturally https://tr.im/Zwn0E

Symptoms of type 1 diabetes:

Increased thirst
Increased urination
Weight loss in spite of increased appetite
Fatigue
Nausea
Vomiting

Patients with type 1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short period of time, and the condition is often diagnosed in an emergency setting.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:

Increased thirst
Increased urination
Increased appetite
Fatigue
Blurred vision
Slow-healing infections
Impotence in men

If you think you have diabetes i think you should have a checkup and speak with your doctor just in case.
