He tested positive for HIV, HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. But with the advancement of medications, HIV can be kept under control and many can live healthy normal lives as long as they keep their T Cells up.

As far as I know, he does not have AIDS. He is infected with HIV though. He is under treatment to hopefully avoid it turning into AIDS. These days getting infected with HIV is more like a chronic problem. With good treatment, it is possible to live a relatively normal life.

From what I know of it is that it takes a while to hurt you and that you can live a healthy life for a long time after being infected.

HIV does not kill you. The body's inability to fight disease that will kill you. Taking VERY good care of yourself is the only way to survive.
