Cannibalism is frowned upon because of several underlying issues with cannibalism. Most people don't know what human meat taste like so it's impossible to develop a taste for human meat and enjoy it. Since people don't enjoy human meat, we don't kill each other to eat them. To perpetuate that, most cultures have mores and values against eating human meat and it was made into a sin in many religtions to really drive the point home and keep people from experimenting. Contrast that with lions in some parts of Africa that have developed a taste for human meat in the past and specifically hunt humans. In cultures where cannibalism is allowed (eating a corpse as a form of rememberance, for example), they have increased occurrences of mental diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease aka mad cow disease (long story short, since the human meat is exactly what we're made of, we don't break it down entirely like we do with other meat so harmful enzymes and other molecular parts don't get broken down or thrown out), as well as getting sick from whatever might have killed that person if it was an illness.

There is a movie called 'Solient Green' which is sort of futuristic and one of the things in the movie is that the dead are processed and fed back to the living. So, if this movie is indeed accurate it will be considered good (by government), not bad, in the future. Sort of a max. utilization of resources type of thing. So is it a waste of resources to embalm and bury corpses in fancy coffins and cemeteries or even creamation instead of using them for lion food (if you don't like the idea of cannibalism), well, maybe. Of course it was even a bigger waste of resources to build ancient pyramids as tombs (if that is what they were) so it may only prove that rationality and irrationality is all somewhat relative to ones background and situation. Certainly primitive peoples who practiced it did not frown upon it. And those who argue that meat is meat, what's the diff? It all makes a really good case to being Vegetarian.

I can't believe you got so many rude answers who answered with expected knee-jerk emotionalism. Julie M, humans ARE animals. Humans are not a different kingdom.
Cannibalism is frowned upon because harming someone else is illegal. Don't do it. But I see no problem with tasting someone who is ALREADY dead if you had his/her explicit permission before. It's just a mass of meat, like a dead animal.
FYI, I'm a vegetarian. Dead animals of any kind gross me out. I just see no difference between dead pig leg and dead human leg. Both are equally disgusting.

Why don't you try to contact the survivors of that terrible plane crash in the Andes??? I guess that was the only case when cannibalism wasn't frowned upon (at least not that much).
Anyway, man, even the thought of it makes me wanna puke.

i dont agree with canabilism but if you think about it animals eat animals and also people say oh because it was a person they have feelings and lives and family and i know this kidna sounds pathetic but so do animals they may not be as complexed as us but they are still living beings. And apparently humans taste like chicken, i don't know who discovered that :s but yea it is morally wrong(and going back to what i said about animals- they don't know that) and to kill and eat a human is just not nice. and i know that answer sounds a bit mized up its just i try and see things from everyones point of view but i dont always manage( i am only 14_ i have a lot to learn still)

Because you're not an animal. We are humans. We're higher functioning than animals and we bury our dead out of respect for their life and their relationship to us. No other creature on the planet buries it's dead.
Plus, the only way you're going to have 'fresh' meat out of a human is if you kill one, which is illegal. Apparently, we taste like pork, if you were really curious. That is just what I have read, not because I know personally.

Ask Jeffrey Dahmer. Oh, that's right, he was murdered in prison for doing exactly what you're wondering about.

Ok, first off its a sin, its also murder and psychopathic as well. You should consider seeing a psychiatrist or psychologist or even the police. I'm sure they'll help you get the help you need.
