Sure if that is all you want to serve. Make sure everyone knows that you are only serving cake and ice cream so they can make sure their children have had a good meal before they come to the party. My daughter is 9, and we have a small party every year. I never get away with just serving cake and ice cream, but usually kids mess over the food anyway, so I guess cake and ice cream is fine.....Have a great party!

Cake and ice cream are always necessities for kids b-day parties but that's more of the dessert part. Why not order pizza for the main course. Or you could always have make - it - yourself sandwiches. You could put out a platter with fresh rolls, different meats (ham, turkey, etc), lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and condiments. It's healthy and yummy for the kids. Or do what my mom used to do for me, make sloppy joe sandwiches. If it's a small party then cake and ice cream is okay but you may want to have a little something extra.

Cake and ice cream's fine, just have it printed on the invitations. For drinks, maybe a little fruit juice but provide lots of water since to much sweet can irritate their throats. I always ask my kids to drink plenty of water after having ice cream so as to avoid any throat infections. Likewise too much food served during that time of day would ruin their appetite for dinner.

I think cake and ice cream is perfectly acceptable for a party in that timeframe. If my child were invited to a party that began at 1:30, I would not assume that lunch would be provided.

Especially if the party starts at 1:30. The kids will have time to get lunch in before they come to the party. You're just providing dessert and entertainment. A perfect way for a bunch of 6 yr olds to spend their afternoon. Bravo...have fun.

After the lunch hour but before the supper hour, I think you are safe.
I'd also suggest if it's a pile of six-year-olds, try this - get some small mint or nut cups (even muffin tin cup liner will work) and scoop one scoop of ice cream into each ahead of time - saves having to scoop hard ice cream and vastly reduces the mess.
I've seen it done at a couple of parties recently.

If the party was at 12 I would have definitely done pizza or some kind of lunch. Since it is a little later I would do some kind of finger foods: chips and dip, cheese, pepperoni and crackers, friut tray.. things like that. This is what I usually do and it goes over well with the kids and also the parents. Anything with cheese like cheetos or doritos and I never have left overs. Have fun!

It's after lunch and before dinner. Cake and ice cream sounds good, but maybe some fruit, too? Especially if someone is allergic. Have fun!

For 2.5 hours, you will need something more than that unless you alert the parents that you are not serving food so they fill their kids up.
A few $5.00 pizzas from Little Ceasars will help. Also bear in mind, the parents are going to be there as well. Nothing to drink? Need drinks.
