The gall bladder stores bile which is used in the breakdown and emulsification of fats. You can live without a gall bladder as your liver produces bile and can secrete this substance directly to your small bowel, bypassing this storage organ. Operations to remove the gallbladder are common- they do have complications, the risks & benefits of which you must discuss with your physician/ surgeon. I'm astounded at the person who thinks the GB is used to purify/filter out acids......please seek medical advice from a sound source. I have worked for a liver surgeon but feel you need a comprehensive chat rather than a list if possible complications. good luck with your cholecystectomy.

The gall bladder is important because it produces bile. We need bile to help us break down and digest our food, fats in particular. Bile is produced by the liver and stored in the gall bladder, which is essentially a bag. When we eat, the gall bladder contracts and releases bile directly into the intestine. It is perfectly possible to live without a gall bladder as bile is still produced. However, because it is not stored, it is released into the gut in small amounts continuously and is not therefore available in large amounts. People who have their gall bladder removed usually find fats, such as cheese, difficult to digest.

The gall bladder is a small pear-shaped organ on the underside of the liver that is used to store bile. Bile is made in the liver and is stored in the gall bladder until it is needed to help the digestion of fat.

The gall bladder cleans the blood of any acids, (or anything else not supposed to be in there) and you don't want acid in your body, any where. so you pee it all out, and thats why your pee is yellow instead of white.
