I don't think I ever had japanese food before. I dislike chinese food, is it the same? I don't want to be a party pooper and not go. What can I eat that will be okay for a picky eater? I dont eat seafood nor anything that is not a cow or chicken.

Japanese food is very different from Chinese. If you want to play it safe and order only beef or chicken, then try any of the following:
Gyudon - bite-sized pieces of beef on steamed rice. The sauce is soy sauce-based I think
Oyakodon - it's like Gyudon but with chicken instead of pork.
Sukiyaki - it's like a soup with thinly sliced beef, rice noodles, tofu, and vegetables - very tasty.

The safest bet is to order something from the "Teppanyaki" portion of the menu. I think teppanyaki means grilled. There's beef, chicken, pork, etc teppanyakis. There might be teppanyaki style steaks, which I hear is popular in Japanese restaurants in the US.

Look at it this way - if you don't like the food, at least you didn't have to pay for it, right?
Japanese restaurants have "safe" dishes like teriyaki chicken. At least give it a go and see what you think. And the food is very different from Chinese food.

japanese food is VERY different than chinese food. also - it is not called "hibachi" - a hibachi is a japanese grill and one of many styles of japanese cooking.

one of the safest suggestions i could make for you if you are not adventurous when it comes to eating is to try either steak or chicken teriyaki - it will usually be accompanied by plain white rice and a small green salad. you can even ask them to just grill the meat and serve the teriyaki sauce on the side.

Go for the tempura fried chicken dishes. They have a light coating of unflavored flour or crumbs and could be dipped into sauce (or not if you don't want to go near the sauces). They often come with tempura vegetables (carrots, squash, onions) that you can recognize because their colors and shapes are visible though the coating. They are crispy and taste like the fresh vegetables.

Just don't order sushi, it's raw fish.

If you're a picky eater just get some Miso soup, Teriyaki Beef (or chicken) over some rice and you will be fine.

japanese, is also called hibachi and it is different than chinese. you can get chicken or steak and they just cook it (usually in front of you) on the griddle. you can get sauteed veggies with soy and teriaki. there is also fried rice but if you don't like that you can just get steamed rice. it is really very good and not as "saucy" as chinese food... but i love pretty much all asian food... just not fish.

Just go and be adventurous. Try something new, and if you don't like it then, oh well. You will be respected for trying.
