Should I not be too hard on people who stumble? I have a good friend in my PETA group that still likes to drink milk. She claims that she does not like soy milk and states she only uses organic free range milk. I think this is still wrong and she should not be in our group as her actions are not very moral.

I wasn't going to answer your question but as i've seen the first 3 answer i just have to say:

1) Cows are killed as part of the milk production process. All freemartins, excess calves and bulls are slaughtered at about 1 week old

2) cows only need milking because we give them excessive hormones and take away thier suckling calves. If we left nature alone, cows would be fine.

There are many other issues with milk production.

Oh, get off your high horse, Ashley, and stop it with the moral stuff. It gets very old after a while.

It is not natural for humans to drink cows' milk. And sadly, organic and free-range are just so much greenwashing when it comes to animal producrs. Your friend has a nasty habit--after all, her parents probably bought the "milk, it does a body good" hogwash when they were younger and believe the lies the dairy industry comes out with now--but with a little compassion, you can help lead her to a humane alternative. Different brands of soy milk taste different. Or she could try drinking rice milk or almond milk. But being judgmental about how "moral" you are will only push people away.

I think you should explain in your question WHY drinking milk is as you say 'not very moral'.

I grew up with mennonite farms which were very much organic free range cows. They treated their animals very well and produced some very good milk.

I guess I don't know how it's immoral. Not saying that it isn't, just maybe you could tell us how it is?

I know that I have accepted you Ashely as my contemporary and living model for morality. You replaced the Virgin Mary in my life. Thank you for just being you.

And TOUGH that your good friend doesn't LIKE soy milk. It's not about "liking" it's about being a paragon of morality and living up to the high standards of PETA.

Okay, Ashley, organic free range milk is from cows who are treated as humanely as possible, which is PETA's mission, is it not?

I don't know what you'd do with someone like this. And to some of you other people: It's not that milking a cow hurts it, it's the lifestyle the cows are forced to live that is wrong.
Has she tried any other milk substitues, like rice milk, or chocolate soy milk?

If you were truly moral Ashley you wouldn't have to keep telling us how moral you are. Also, once again, morality has NOTHING to do with whether or not you eat meat, or drink milk, etc.

I think that you are right, I only use milk to poach my baby panda liver souffle.

Everyone has to draw the line somewhere

PETA is categorized by the Department of Homeland Security as a terrorist group.

Drinking milk is not immoral. No pain is caused to any animal by extracting the milk, in FACT if you don't milk a cow they are in pain and can become ill. BUT, if you think it is immoral ask her about it, perhaps she can give you an explanation that will satisfy your moral questions.
