They serve different purposes and thus are hard to compare. Eventually the LED lights may develop into good general lighting sources, but right now the CFL is the best - most cost effective, most efficient, most even light.

LED the best as an Indicator - when we don't need it for the purpose of illuminating other objects/ areas for visibility or reading.
CFL is best for small area illumination where our interest is not reading a book but just to know what are all the things around.
FL is the best for room illumination in developing countries where they use one bulb per room.
Incandecent is economic in poor countries till the CFL is made available at thro' away price.
But the CFL lobbies argue that it is economical without making it competitive in price with the incandecent.

Though the LEDs apper to be brighter at the least cost, being focused on a small area cannot be used to illuminate uniformly a study /work area.

Cost wise is the CFL, it is a lot cheaper. But overall, the LED saves way more energy by using a lot less to produce it and it lasts a lot longer.

Both are viable, although most perfer the CFL.

frequently a 15watt CFL will supply a similar quantity of sunshine as a 60watt incandescent bulb and a super type of of the CFL's will final as long as 10 cases longer. i've got chanced on that extra value-effective bulbs tend to burn out speedier than GE or Phillips. So interior the long-term you could keep on capability and changing bulbs. yet another attention to saving the two money and capability is changing lights furniture I easily have 2 furniture that have 6 candle bulbs and a gap easy i visit be changing the two one among them with furniture that take no extra beneficial than 3 low capability bulbs. I easily have already replace 2 ceiling followers which had easy kits that had 4 bulbs with a fan that has a easy kit that takes a single capability saver bulb.

LED is much better as it consumes much less electricity, and it theoratically lasts forever, but the amount of light emitted per LED is much less than a CFL! So it will depend on what purpose you want this to be used!
