hypertension can cause that, pressure on a artery, nerves, being aware of it, hypoglycemia, not breathing right, hyperventilating. try relaxing a while before going to bed and try not to control your breathing let reflexes take over. Helps me anyway.

I'm not real sure about your question. Are you talking about a strong heartbeat like thud-thud when you lay down that keep you awake?
I experience this when I lay on my left side and it is due to additional pressure on the left ventricle. My ventricle is pretty messed up and I get thumps that scare the crap out of me even waking me up.
If this is your problem, try sleeping on your right side. It makes all the difference in the world.

I don't know about the heart jumping slowly, but taking a nice shower, should do it.
