Not an expert in this area but my guess would be that it comes down to economics (as so many things do). The maufacturers will go for whichever method is the cheapest, unless people start boycotting their products and hitting them where it hurts (the bank balance) then I doubt they'll make any changes.

Many plastic bottles can be recycled, you need to look for the little recycling symbol that's stamped onto them - it's a triangle made up of three arrows. Usually has a number with it and letters such as MDPE2, this tells you if it can be recycled.

Even if you have recycleable bottles there's not always facilities that exist for them. Push the manufacturers and your local authoorities to make changes if needs be.

They are already. Most plastics are recyclable. Even if nobody in your area will accept some a certain kind of plastic, it could be sent to another location where that type is accepted, or just crushed to make packing material or other things that just need "stuff".

I don't have any resources, but a friend of mine told me that it takes more energy to recycle plastic than to make new plastic. Once again, it's a question of the bottom line.

HI, raychil
No demand for change as Stupid human beings keep on buy food in those containers and the company will keep using them. Sorry very blunt answer. Ask for them to use the biodigradable one and they will eventually. You could take your own containers when you go for takeaway. We do when we get Fish and chips so we get the hight of luxury.
Fish and chips on a Plate on the beach in mid winter snow. The salt, vinegar and sauce also come in their own containers from home. Its not mean but environmentally friendly as all the waste is taken home for disposal or re-use.
