can you get aids and other std's through anal sex?

The majority of STIs infect certain regions of the body and some are systemic (in the blood).

You can get chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhea, HPV and herpes from anal sex if one of the people involved has one of these infections in/around the anal region. You can also get systemic infections like Hep A or Hep B, HIV (from anal sex, not oral-anal sex) or intestinal parasites.

Every type of sex carries with it its own risks. It is important to be aware of these risks so you can make an informed decision on the level of risk you are willing to take.

Condoms/dental dams should be used with anal/oral-anal sex to make them safer.

Of course you can just like any other type of sex. The only way you're guaranteed to not get any std's is abstinence. Now I'm not promoting abstinence or anything but just make sure you're always using a condom. That's the second safest method available, and it's always better to be safe than sorry
