Ether
The gas ether was discovered in 1540 and given its name in 1730. The gas was first successfully used by an American physician, Crawford W. Long, in an operation in 1842. The operation, however, was unrecorded, so official credit went instead to William Morton for his 1846 demonstration of an operation with the use of ether.

The first surgical procedure was done in Ancient Egyptian time. It was the procedure of removing the guinea worm. The guinea worm went into a person's body while they were swimming or bathing in the Nile. Very Painful. The ancient Egyptians used a stick, and coiled the worm out, by the stick. This is also the medical sign we see everywhere, with that snake/worm winded around the staph. Hope this helped!!

It's gonna be really difficult since it was that long ago, but it isn't entirely impossible. You have to prove that the problems you suffer now were caused by the operation. Go seek legal advice, because the experts will be able to give you a better, more accurate response than those of us on Yahoo! Answers. And hey, at least you guys in the U.K. have the NHS. A shocking amount of us here in the U.S. can't afford health care because of how the whole system is set up :/

There are mentions of ancient Egyptians doing surgery, however how well documented they are, I do not know.
