Yes, get a "general delivery" address which is free from the local post office. You will have to get a bank account too and I suggest "direct deposit" of your SSI check. Look for a bank like Wells Fargo because I have moved state to state and my SSI follows me. I just had to get the bank account and general delivery address because I ended up homeless when I moved to a different state I started my SSI in. It all works out though. Be brave.

yes you have to be a resident for at least 6 months in that state unless you already get it from the state you live in and then you need to give them your change of address only. good luck and best wishes.
