Personally, I would add a foreward to the Bible with the intro: "When reading this text, please keep in mind the following quotes from Buddha:"
"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense."
"Hatred does not cease through hatred at any time. Hatred ceases through love. This is an unalterable law."
"Have compassion for all beings, rich and poor alike; each has their suffering. Some suffer too much, others too little."
"However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act on upon them?"
"It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways."
"No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path."
"Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others."

One word, before you start to read: LISTEN.
At the risk of fomenting righteous indignation-
I'd do a bit of restructuring:
Old testament presented in chronological order.
A reading guide that cross references writings on the same or related topic.
A glossary so you could find what you are looking for more easily.
A couple blank pages at the end of every book where you could write down your problems, your prayers and what insight you found in a specific scripture.
Now, they can get mad at me. C. :)!!

what's essential is invisible to the eye.
this is from antoine van de saint-exury's LITTLE PRINCE.
for it clearly defines heaven as a place unseen by a naked eye but can feel within the hearth through the presence of God. what's more : people are so reluctant of looking at ones inside being. maybe because it took time and crucial observation to know that. yet through this we would be able to understand other.
For this qoutation reflects both the reality of spiritual renaissance and the essence of life.

I would add something to Proverbs like "A penny saved is a penny earned."
However, if I could add to the Bible for things that have been invented since then, I would add another chapter to Proverbs with things like:
1. My son, listen carefully. Save thy work.
2. There are five things the Lord hates. Six things that are detestable to him:
3. using a speaker phone without closing thy office door, using cell phones while standing right next to somebody else,
4. leaving a cell phone ringer on during a meeting, using a cell phone in a meeting,
5. driving a mile with a turn signal on, driving without using turn signals.
6. A wise man invests in a mutual fund, a fool puts all his eggs in one basket.
7. Do not put on a credit card what you can not repay when the bill arrives.
8. Do not fall for short term loans and pawning your goods, for the fees are an abomination to the Lord.
9. A woman pleases the Lord when she can do with work and diet what others can do with surgery.
10. The sluggards spend free time in front of electronic boxes, while the wise do their household chores.

The Holy Bible is God's Word, we shall neither add to it nor take away from it for God to bless us.
Why don't we just write our own book, and take credit for it, if we have an urge to compose something we think others may enjoy?
But let's not mess with God's word, lest we be cursed.

The life of any of the saints. I believe the bible continues to be written in the hearts of men, as it was at the very beginning, when there was no paper, and no ink.

I would put back in all the text that the church decided to remove, And make all the scripture available, if one text is holy & inspired how can another not be, & who is really qualified to judge?

I'd add verses 18-19 from Revelation to ALL the books:
18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
