vegemite is a GOOD source of vitamin B12, which many people think Vegetarians/vegans don't get. While we don't need much B12.. some vegans may have a difficiency.
So in other words.. vegemite is a good thing to use occasionally.
As for protien.. get it from a variety of beans, soy, tofu, nuts, and whole grains.. not sure how much is in vegemite.

Hello :) I'm 16 and I became a vegetarian just under a year ago and I really recommend it! You feel a lot more healthier and the cows/chickens/pigs will certainly thank you for it! A vegetarian can eat/drink eggs and milk. A vegetarian does not eat any product which an animal has been slaughtered for. You may be thinking of a vegan who doesn't eat any product from an animal including milk and eggs. Just tell your mum that you want to! Tell her you hate the way animals are killed and then give her a list of food she could buy you the next time she goes on the weekly grocery shop You certainly don't have to take tablets for not eating meat/fish/gelatin. As long as you are eating a balanced diet, full of vegetables, fruit, dairy and the occasional chocolate bar, you will be healthy What I do recommend is making sure you eat a lot of protein which could be found in seeds, nuts and meat alternatives like Quorn and Linda McCartney (I certainly recommend the last brand! They food is delicious and 100% vegetarian). When I became a vegetarian, I lost a lot of muscle because I didn't consume enough protein so as long as you do have a balance diet, go for it! Hope this helps :) .

No, not a very good source of protein at all. I mean, even if it is, pound for pound, you'd never be able to eat more than a couple of teaspoons or so at a sitting.
I think of Vegemite as not so much as a "food" as a "condiment". Try adding a spoonful the next time you're frying up some mushrooms - it's great!

1 serving of Vegemite is 5 grams and 5 grams of Vegemite has 1.3 grams of protein.
Not a lot of protein! You'd have to eat a whole jar of Vegemite to get your RDA of protein.

[gag, shutter, gag] Okay, Vegemite is a bad substitute for anything. (Except pay- backs for a roommate).
Yes, I have eaten it. I have a friend who brought some over from New Zealand.
It may have traces of protein. But should you have any taste buds at all, I would recommend far better sources such as tofu, soy nuts, peanuts, black beans, legumes, and almonds.

vegemite is good if you fix it right...on toasted white bread with a little butter and a thin spread of vegemite...but it is not a good protein substitute since it has very little protein...try peanut butter its yummy too!!!

Isnt it just yeast and salt?
I doubt that it has much nutritional value.
Peanut butter would be a step up, but even then legumes, nuts and beans are a far superior protein source.

No. It contains very little protein. It's good as a spread for bread and crackers, but not as a major source of protein.
Legumes/beans, tofu are good sources of protein. For non-vegans, also eggs, cheese, dairy.
