Yes, HPV (the virus that causes genital warts) can be spread by having sex (vaginal, oral, or anal) with someone who has the virus. It can also be spread by any DIRECT skin to skin contact with the infected area. So, even foreplay and "dry humping" can spread the virus if there is any DIRECT skin to skin contact with the infected area.

Condoms HELP prevent the spread of STDs including HPV, but they are never truly a 100% guarentee. HPV (as well as herpes) can be spread by DIRECT skin to skin contact. So, even if a condom was used, it's only covering the penis and not the entire genital area. Just the rubbing back and forth of the genital areas during sex or foreplay is enough to spread the virus.

Take care!

Genital warts, also known as condylomata acuminata or venereal warts, are one of the most common types of sexually transmitted diseases. As the name suggests, genital warts affect the moist tissues of the genital area. They may look like small, flesh-colored bumps or have a cauliflower-like appearance. Genital warts may be as small as 1 millimeter in diameter — smaller than the width of a ballpoint pen refill — or may multiply into large clusters.

In women, genital warts can grow on the vulva, the walls of the vagina, the area between the external genitals and the anus, and the cervix. In men, they may occur on the tip or shaft of the penis, the scrotum or the anus. Genital warts can also develop in the mouth or throat of a person who has had oral sexual contact with an infected person.

Although genital warts can be treated with medications and surgery, they are a serious health concern. The virus that causes them — the human papillomavirus (HPV) — has been associated with cervical cancer. It has also been linked with other types of genital cancers, such as cancer of the penis.

If you have had the Gardisil injections, go for it. If you haven't, it would be a good idea to do so. Even if you use protection and are very careful, the virus can transmit with ANY genital contact, it doesn't have to be the actual wart rubbing against your vaginal walls. His scrotum is guaranteed to touch your flesh at some point, and that may be enough for a transfer. Considering the risks to females of HPV infection, you shouldn't do it. At your age, cancer could manifest as early as 28 if you are exposed today.
