Cold sores/fever blisters are oral herpes simplex virus type 1. It's not the icky genital herpes (type 2). Oral herpes really isn't considered an STD, because you can get it when you are a baby from someone with the virus kissing you. You can also get it from sharing a drink, eating utensils, lip balm, etc. from someone with the virus. The only thing is, it is extremely contagious and can be spread to various parts of the body, including the genitals.
Chickenpox and shingles are various types of herpes as well. You don't say someone who has had the chickenpox is "disgusting," so someone with oral herpes isn't "disgusting," either.
Almost 80% of American adults get cold sores. The virus lays dormant in the body until immune defenses are low, or something irritates the skin, and then cold sores breakout.

You're almost right...more than 95% of the world's population has been exposed to herpes simplex 1 (causes cold sores or fever blisters). I have it. It's no big deal.
For the most part, simplex 1 lies dormant in a person's system. It can flare up now and then...mostly in times of stress. Once you have it, you have it. It will never go away. However, most of the time, you will not show any outward signs or symptoms of it. It's only when you get a cold sore that others (including yourself) will know you have it.
It is NOT genital herpes, which is sexually transmitted. That is simplex 2.

Herpes simplex one is the kind that give you cold sores, the can be spread, simplex 2 or sexually transmitted is usually from having oral sex with someone who is infected or has a cold sore which then transmits it to you, chicken pox are also a herpes virus. But not everyone in the world has herpes.

Yep, most of us have.
Herpes Simplex Virus-1 primarily causes "cold sores".
Herpes Simplex-2 primarily causes genital sores.
Herpes Zoster (shingles) may afflict people who have had chickenpox; it causes neurological (nerve) pain and rash/blisters, usually on one side of the trunk in the rib area.
Not 100% of the population has had HSV-1 or HSV-2, but many of us have!

I'm sorry but, where do you get your information from. I studied medicine for over four years and worked in a lab specializing in infectious diseases and, I beg to differ with you. I and my family have never had anything like this, have you?
This is a completely different type of virus and, you should stick with why you know on here, which doesn't seem to be much.
