Read the best answer - she says to feed a toddler things like corn dogs, pre-made sloppy joes and she suggests fruit roll ups and fruit parfait as a fruit source. Whatever happened to applesauce or bananas? I wonder what that child will look like in a few years. Some of the other answers weren't any better. I can't believe people feed their kids like this and then some of the same people pitch a fit about vegetarian and vegan children.

Lol,I know how you feel.My parents fed me Mcdonald's,ice cream, fried foods, etc and let me drink soda, but when I decided to become a vegan that's when they became "concerned" with my health.

Because people are ignorant. Unfortunately, Americans are raised to believe that they need a lot more protein than they actually do and that the only way to get that protein is by eating a huge serving of meat. When the reality is that too much proten is hard for the body to digest and you get more energy from plant foods than anything else. I'm lucky enough to have been raised in a family that is 1/2 veggie and 1/2 meat-eaters, so I knew how to eat healthy. I also was never given sugary, fatty snacks growing up and believe that is why I don't crave them as an adult. I feel even worse for these kids because you know that all these pre-made foods are to save time for the parents. Maybe you should think about how much time kids take to raise properly before you have them. I'm not saying that people need to have a 5 course meal ready for the family every night, but pre-made dinners should be the exception, not the rule.

Yes I do. I believe some of the kids Talked about have bad parents who can't cook, and do spend their money elsewhere. But there are also people like me who at their lowest have had nothing. I do smoke, I don't drink. If I had little money I didn't smoke and that was that. Anyway there were times I'd go to my bank and my money would be gone, my partner was laid off whilst I was on maternity leave. He wasn't entitled to any benefits because I got more than £100 something a week. I had to borrow money from family, friends, strangers, and loans. Would be cashing in 2ps, searching through old coats the lot. I had nothing for myself at times so I could buy food for daughter. Although I fed my daughter instead of myself, I see that there would e some bad parents who would buy some fags instead of a meal. Bit really, if it hadn't of been for our families, my daughter probably would of been at risk for not being fed

O_O; Dang, that's pretty bad. What annoys me is that when teens or kids want to become vegetarian or vegan, the parents get really concerned and think somethings wrong or think it's unhealthy. They don't even try to take the time to look it up. People used to only live off of fruits, nut, veggies. You don't have to have meat to be healthy and get enough nutrients. Being a vegetarian is alot healthier then eating meat.

Ick...and people (Americans!) wonder why childhood obesity and childhood diabetes are at an all-time high. It's because the children are not being fed properly!
I'm with you - what happened to bananas, cut up apples, raisins, baby carrots? Are parents too lazy or too busy for even that these days?
....and fish sticks? FISH STICKS? Seriously? For a child that young? Those aren't even made of fish! I saw that listed a lot in the other answers. My mother didn't let me start eating those until I was almost 10 - as they are a "fun" food and have no nutritional value whatsoever.
Yikes. It is quite interesting and sad, actually.
Uuugh! Carnivores.

Yeah, I love how the same parents who are feeding their kids hot dogs every day are the ones that think raising a healthy vegetarian kid is tantamount to child abuse. What's a hot dog besides salt, sugar, nitrates, artificial color and the "lips and *******" (in the colorful words of my best friend) left over from the slaughter industry? Is there anything good in there? And then they smother them in some sugary ketchup and wonder why their kids are fat and hyper...

What has happened to cooking from scratch?? People are feeding themselves and their children junk and they think it's food???
No wonder Americans are so obese and children are hyper-active......all those empty calories and additives!!
I grew up on a dairy farm. We raised all the food we ate.....no sugary snacks. I was in my late twenties. before i ever saw a Doctor. We children were never sick and i believe it was because of the healthy food we ate.
I still love fresh garden vegetables and snack on fresh fruit. Yummy
Women need to buy a good cookbook (Joy of Cooking is one) and learn how to cook!!! They will be amazed at how good food really is.

Well, thats what happened when you live in a consumerism society where corporations and publicities are directing the way childs are raised and feed!! Idiocracy is not far from now, another generation, and they will be as dumbs as its possible to be!!
Its saddening to see so much lack of social awareness in this society... Not sure it can continue for long...

Be the force be with you... As so many have forgotten it...

It is pretty sad. It is not hard to produce high quality meals, well balanced in your own kitchen with the good ingredients ready available today. She owes it to her family to learn how to cook. Secondly, the horrendous answer she received prove how lazy and incompentent Amercians have become. We have become addicts for prepackaged foods. I love the answer that said Stouffers lasagan was the best. I have never made a prepackaged lasagna in my life, but I can tell you that there is no way that Stouffers lasagna is more healthy then mine or mare tasty for that matter.

I hope this woman figures out that growning babies need quality well balanced meals for her baby to grow into a healty child. I mean you only need to look around to see where pre packaged foods has gotten us.

Arrh, 'tis strange.

When i ran a question about Jam doughnuts and apple turnovers being a good source of fruit I was amazed that some people thought i was serious.

i guess this is further proof that humans have lost the "natural" ability to recognise a balanced diet. Many people seem so far removed from "real" food they have lost all concept of whats natural or not.

Maybe we shoud tax this stuff off the shelves as those children are likely to be a bigger drain on the healthcare system in the future.

Unfortunately she seems to be getting terrible advice. Look at her other answers about her pediatrician saying its ok for her child to eat this junk provided she "offers" him something else.

That is truly frightening. I think they should start offering child nutrition classes to new parents along with the standard parenting classes. It scares me when every product I pick up at the grocery store is full of high fructose corn syrup. Then parents wonder why their children are "hyperactive" and they take them to the conventional doctor who prescribes them some type of medication. A horrible cycle, when all they need is the proper nutrition.
