I forgot the brand or what it's called. It's the herring in white sauce, I'm guessing the white sauce is sour cream...however I forgot the name and brand that you always see at the store.

Thanks! I sent my bf to the store, and forgot the brand, and I haven't had it in a while. My grandma use to buy it. So thank you for your help...and yes it did have onions in it I believe.

VITA is the most popular brand in national distribution. You are looking for herring in sour cream sauce with sliced onions.
In places like Milwaukee with a lot of Germans there are lots of local brands for those who don't make their own.

Herring in cream (yes, its sour cream) - I like the ACME brand but there are many others that are good as well.
