How many of you use, or know someone who uses a CPAP machine at night to help them breathe and not to snore?

I am very curious about this, since CPAPs save lives all over the world. I think we all need more education on CPAP machines, and we need to spread the word that if people snore or stop breathing at night, they should have a sleep study done.

Sleep Apnea causes high blood pressure, can cause strokes and heart attacks. It sometimes makes people have heartburn at night, and makes them sleepy during the day. People can become forgetful or irritated. This is just a short list of all the damage that having untreated sleep apnea can cause.

I know many, in my personal life, who use C-paps or Bipaps. I most likely know more because I am an RT. I just found out that my Sunday school leader uses one today. We talked about it and different masks for 10 or 15 minutes.

CPAPS are very helpful and can save lives. They also certainly make the quality of living better for those suffering from sleep apnea. Using the CPAP helps them sleep better and they get more restorative rest and can function better during the day.

I have a friend who uses one and my brother-in-law did too.

Sleep apnea runs in my family. My grandfather uses one, also my mother and my uncle. Although my mother used one for a few years, I think she is cured because her doctor took her off it. Sleep apnea is a scary thing. Sometimes I wonder if my son has it. He breathes really loud at night, even after he got his tonsils out.

Soooo many of my patients have them and it's odd that this was fairly unheard of until several years ago.
People have no idea how much stress obesity puts on one's body. These machines save lives on a nightly basis and I think they're fantastic!
