Make it fancy dress. There are so many famous people they could dress up as. Beefeater's. Pearly kings and Queens. Monarchs, Pop Stars etc. Decorate the room in red white and blue.

I am English and although the the beatles is a good idea...I'm guessing that 14/18 year olds might not be into it so much!! Good British bands at the moment are Kaisher Chiefs, killers, razorlight, coldplay! And yeah tea is VERY British (gotta be strong and sweet) ha ha.
If your having a buffet I would suggest sandwiches cut into triangles with egg mayonnaise and cress, ham and tomato and beef. we always have crisps on a buffet (think you call em chips) and good sweets include sherry trifle...gotta be home made! If you were serving a hot buffet you have to have a big pan of mushy peas ( I'm from the north of England and that's a true traditional thing) served on top of meat and potato pie with mint sauce or gravy! Jacket potatoes are also common place filled with either cheese, baked beans or coleslaw! we also serve alot of chilli and rice but think we stole that idea!
You could have god save the Queen playing when people arrive and maybe have some punk music aswell. Some1 suggested tartan....remember tartans are from Scotland not England!!!! The Union Jack is Britain's flag but the George Cross is Englands ( all white with a red cross in the centre) Hope that helps a little!!
good luck
