I would say it's a good idea to go to your local GP to get yourself checked out.
To me, it sounds like you could have panic disorder. This is a moderately common ailment. People with this disorder are prone to 'panic attacks'. These have very similar symptoms to what you've described; you feel your heart beating strongly, and feel a lack of control, and often a sense of doom or fear that something awful will happen.
There are medications available to help, also other treatments are effective, particularly breathing training and mindfulness training. But as i said before, your GP (local doctor) would be able to give you the best advice because he can meet you and get the full story! If you can't do that feel free to post more details or PM or email me and we can chat :)

Always consult with your family and the physician first before taking advise from strangers. Could you be having a anxiety attack? perhaps anticipating gifts? I have similar experiences, i try to remain relaxed and take deep breaths through the nose and out through the mouth. You can also write down what you are doing, and the time you are doing it and see if you experience the same symptoms.

If you have chest pain, you need to be evaluated by a DR who can do an ECG.

go to your gp for help
it's probably just your body's reaction to a disturbing thing, since you can't control it it's better if you go see your dr esp since there's no such thing as diagnosis online.
