blackening of the lungs will happen over a period of time. There is no "magic number" of how many cigarettes it will take to make your lungs black. Every cigarette you smoke is detrimental to your lungs. Please remember that for however long you smoke it will take your lungs half that period of time to be back into decent shape. For example, if you smoke for 20 years and quit, your lungs might be back in decent shape 10 years after quitting. 1 cigarette will not make your lungs black. If you would like to see first hand how quickly your lungs can be damaged I suggest this experiment I googled:
Materials needed: cigarette, transparent plastic syringe, cotton balls, matches or lighter
Fill the syringe with the cotton balls. Insert the end of the syringe onto the filter of the cigarette. Light the cigarette and pull back the plunger to draw smoke into the barrel of the syringe. Have the students watch the cotton balls turn black as the smoke particles are deposited. Discuss with the students what they have observed. Students might consider what the effects of smoking several cigarettes a day for many years would have on the lungs if only one cigarette can turn a cotton ball black.

It takes a gradual amount of time to get your lungs to turn black. Please, don't try smoking.

I have no idea, I've been smoking a pack a day for 27yrs.. I'm sure that's done the trick,LOL!!!!!!!
