I was diagnosed with hpv last fall, I got one of the higher risk kinds. I got it from my boyfriend because I found out that one of his ex girlfriends had it. I have been with him since then.

I'm just curious if hpv is always going to spread to other people as long as I have it. And on average, how long does hpv stay in your body?

I know that I'll have it for life, I'm just curious about the abnormal paps, because almost everyone I've talked to has had it clear up on it's own.

I was wondering about when a normal pap finally shows up, if it is still able to be spread.

Changes in the cells of your cervix can result in an abnormal Pap test. Most of the time, if you are a teenager, your body will clear the HPV and the Pap test will become normal again over several years. However, sometimes the HPV infection persists in your cervix which can lead to cervical cancer. This is why your doctor will want to see you for follow-up visits if you have had an abnormal Pap test.

Researchers used to believe that if you had HPV you would always carry the virus, but because of new medical research, we now believe that in most cases a person who has a normal immune system will actually clear HPV without treatment. This means that the virus can no longer be detected. However, it remains possible that in some people the virus is hidden and can cause symptoms later. It is important to remember that if you have had an HPV infection, you can still become re-infected with HPV if you come in contact with the virus again.

Also, as long as you test positive for the virus, it will be possible to pass the virus to others.

Yes it will spread. My girlfriend got it when she was pregnant with her son over 4 yrs ago and I got it from her this year. She also had no signs or symptoms at the time.

yes it can clear up on its own i dont think there is a time frame it would be kinda of hard for you and your b/f because if it clears from him and not you, you give it back to him vis versa

and if it clears on its own how can you have it for life??

there is no cure for HPV, once you have it, you have it for life.
