Actually we ran our farm totally off of the grid. We had 8 solar panels and 6 battery packs and one small wind turbine .The only time we had to use the back up generater was when it was cloudy and no wind. We ran a 16 room farmhouse with no problem. If you check out mother earth living website they have some great ideas along these lines good luck

Wind turbines deliver electricity to an array of batteries which in turn deliver to an inverter and then to the living house. achieved good there'll be no potential surges. Wind turbines even have regulators on them which do not enable the turbine to generate greater beneficial than a collection volume of electricity.

I'm not able to answer what you actually asked except to say "solar," but one thing to consider is finding non-electric ways to do what electricity's doing for you now--things like solar panels to heat or supplement heat, heat water, maybe even sell back to the grid if you live someplace really sunny.

I suspect that conserving energy through such alternate means, and techniques like proper ventilation and insulation, will be more within the grasp of most people than actual generation of power. Big saving is possible, depending on how wasteful the "before" picture is.

you get some lemons some nails and some thin copper wire and some led lights. first wrap tightly the copper wire around two nails separately then stick the nails into the lemon keeping them about 2 inches apart take the leads of wire from the nails and attach them to the wire of the led lights and the light should light up. so depending on how much power you want to make thats how many lemons you will have to grow. this also makes a very good young childs sience fair project. any acidy fruit will work if you do it right

The simplest way will not save you money. The simple way is to buy a generator and start it up. To make it green(er) buy a diesel generator and run it on biodiesel. That is the simple way.

But I suspect you are not really looking for simple. I suspect you are looking for free, renewable, green energy. That will be neither simple nor cheap. It it were simple or cheap, everybody would be doing it already.

Simply build a VVER-1000 950 MWe reactor in your back yard and you will be fine. I did, and now I sell more energy *back* to Ohio Edison than they can produce!
