I won't lie to you...my class (junior) has done some of the sweetest funraising. We're setting up a Vera Bradely bingo right now...this will be our second one. It brings in SO much money.
We've also done a night at a local cafe or coffee house (I don't know what's near you but we have a Panera Bread right up the street) and they're pretty successful, as well.
Those along with some random Yankee candle sales got us over $15000 in 2 years.

if you have a local krispy keme this is a q1uick fundraiser that you can do about 2-3 thorught the year and make aabout 500-800 depends on the students in the school, so you have to ask if the students liek those type of donuts and contact the Krsispy Kreme in your area. Its a really good fundraise that doesn't take up alot of time, basically you have to order a minimum amountof boxes, you're going to pay $3.00 a box the and charge $6.00/box or $.50/ donut, sell them for about a 1-2 weeks. Make sure its ok with your school also!!

Throw a party. Contact your local stores and ask them for donations. I did this in college, many stores are more than happy to help. Contact every store in your area and tell them you will have sponsorship at the event. It's time consuming, but it really works. I was even able to get a DJ for $100 for 4 hours, if he was able to sell his CD's at the party and hand out cards. Charge according to what you are going to have. For example, if you are going to have enough for people to have dinner, sodas, dance, etc. you could probably charge as much as $15 a head without it seeming too cheesy.
Really getting the community to donate things is the best thing ever. We also did a auction for a lot of things. We were even able to score some free things from big companies with a lot of emails. Not nearly as many emails as we sent out, but enough. We received a gift basket from Crabtree & Evlynn, a perfume box from Elizabeth Arden, a make up pack from Clanique, and some gift certificates from Cache, a day spa, a few restaurants, etc. Hit up everyone you can think of. Everyone won't respond, but quite a few will. Also, whatever grocery store does "tools for schools" in your area will help and possibly donate gift cards.

Sell popcorn, soda, & hotdogs @ sporting events.
During the holidays do "Secret admirer" things. Like X-mas cookies for X-mas, balloons or carnations for valentines day. Have a sign-up sheet & when someone purchases the item for thier secret crush, ti gets delivered during homeroom or lunch.
Hope these are some good ideas - they worked well when I was in high school.

Food related: bake sales
raffle tickets for CG to local gourmet shops, restaurants, a picnic or dinner made by the best cooks in your class (set the menu)
Non-food:
simple manicures (non-invasive; women wash their hands & volunteers apply salon brand lotions & nail polishes) or hair makeovers (e.g. easy up-dos, braids - have volunteers practice a lot beforehand & have customers bring their own combs/brushes)
Halloween is approaching. If the school administration approves & your school allows costumes - you can offer face painting in exchange for a donation.
raffle tickets for CG & items from local merchants for things people need/want (beauty salons, tax services, gardening, etc.)
car wash or pet wash (dogs are usually easier than cats)

You could try selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts(if you have one where you are),selling Entertainment Books, having a fish fry or having a car wash. These are a few I could think of right away.
