If your purpose was to serve or eat a salad with deep-fried onions, peppers and shrimp, then you did NOT defeat the purpose. Seems you executed the purpose very well.

Kind of........................... You are still getting the vitamins and minerals of a salad. There is nothing wrong with the shrimp, it is a low fat, low calorie, low sodium, and carbohydrate free food. It is also an excellent source of protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, and other minerals and vitamins. The deep fried onions probably just made it taste a little bit better, and you would probably get the same, if not more, fat and calories with a portion of mashed potatoes. I don't know what's wrong with peppers. Were they deep fried? I don't think I would even like that. If they were cured or fresh peppers that is fine for your diet. If they are cured, you might just want to consider your sodium content.

Yeah, especially if you are looking to eat something lite. I like salads that are healthy. That way I know that when I eat a salad I have eaten something that is good for me. Lots of fresh veggies, a basic salad dressing, maybe some cheese and sunflower seeds. Chicken breast is good and low fat. But piling a bunch of deep fried stuff on a salad... I guess you get some greens but I wouldn't make a habit of eating stuff like.

Yeah, it does actually, but anymore, a "salad" is defined as a conglomoration of many things other than the standard lettuce and tomatoes, which are often, but not always, included. If one is on a weight-loss regimen, the one you describe would be deadly, not to mention the gobs of dressing that would cover the whole thing -- a cholesterol nightmare.

Oh, heck yes it does. Check the fat and calorie content for some of the salads sold at fast food restaurants- some have more fat grams than a Big Mac. I guess a lot of people can salve their consciences by telling themselves that they are eating a salad, so they're eating "healthy".

Sort of. But no worse than Cobb salads with bacon, eggs, and cheese. And no worse than a Caesar salad, or a Chef salad. And no worse than drenching the salad in tons of fatty dressing.

I actually like the sound of your salad. I'd eat it!
