I am a 29 year old male, 5'11 medium build. I have always been on the most part had a healty diet but I just recently became VEGAN and have ben for about 2 months. I eat NO animal products NO MEAT, NO DAIRY, NO SEAFOOD, NO CHEESE and diets consist of grain, fruits, vegetable, nuts, soy ect. I have been taking B12 supplements as well. Today I had to use the bathroom. #2 of course and I started shaking and got light headed, lips got numb and started to sweat just a little. After I went to the bathroom I went and checked my blood pressure for the hell of it and it was like 110/70. Before I became VEGAN my pressure was normally around 135/80 which was pretty good still. Now that my pressure is 110/70 is that too low for a man 5'11 185 lbs with a thin/medium muscular build. Is my pressure is 110/70 was my symptoms from possible low blood pressure and if it was, is my low blood pressure from my extreme VEGAN fatless diet that consist of nothing but vegies fruit, grain, and soy?

could be that before your vegan diet you were getting or consuming a certain amount of lead in your diet. sometimes lead gives you high blood pressure. And then your vegan diet cleaned out some of the lead and so your blood pressure in un-bounding. These first couple of months mean your body is adjusting to the new diet. Your funny sypmtoms should subside in a couple of months. Keep the faith ...

My understanding of blood pressure is docs consider 120-140 to be borderline hypertension no matter what height or weight you are.

I'm about 5', and before I went veg in January 2002, my blood pressure was always in the neighborhood of 114/80-something. It was 90/62 when I went to the doctor about a month ago, and they said that was good. Of course, I'm a lot smaller height-wise, and I'm a bit overweight.

Your symptoms could be because you aren't eating enough -- you do need to eat some fat (nuts, by the way, do have fat) -- or something else. Call a doctor and check it out.

Your blood pressure now is healthy. High blood pressure is classified as 140/90 so you were really more at risk prior to. Blood pressure between 120-138 on the top number or 80-89 on the bottom is considered prehypertension which you're blood pressure prior to fell under. The only time I ever had low blood pressure was when I had viral pharyngitis and my blood pressure was 85/45. The doctor gave me tylenol every 15 minutes until it was back up and then had me on an IV for 2 hours. In most cases lower is better and right now your blood pressure is at a very safe level.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

I am NO medical person. I have naturally low blood pressure & always have. The symptoms you describe are close but it also describes allergies, "bugs", stress & a few other things.
You are saying a no fat diet??? That is not good, Nuts, Seeds, Avocados, Olive Oil, Flax Oil (Udo's Choice Blend) all have good fats & should be included in your diet. You don't sound underweight, but are you getting enough exercise? Sometimes even lack of exercise can effect your blood pressure.

This is just food for thought.

Maybe you need more salt and potassium. People who do the Pritikin diet lower their blood pressure by cutting out salt from so many processed foods. Maybe you need to eat a bag of chips :) Seriously, normal blood pressure is normal for everyone. You might have just had a moment there unrelated to blood pressure. Check with a Dr. and see what he says about sweating and light headedness under strain. Eat some avocado and fatty nuts- you need some fat in your diet or your hair is going to get brittle.

Your bp does seem a bit low but not dangerously low, it's just slightly right below what is considered normal.

Sounds like you had some sorta virus, you were very symptomatic of that.

I suggest you start taking some vegan omega 3, drinking more water, and load up on the citrus fruits and blue berries.

You might want to consult a Dr. about your BP, although there is a possibility you simply aren't eating enough calories for your height, weight & activity level.
My SO & I are vegetarians, not quite vegan but nearly. His BP is actually a bit high. I've had low BP since my teens, which has caused dizziness & other fun stuff, but becoming vegetarian has had no apparent effect on my BP either way.

Vegan doesn't have to be "fatless." You need some good fats from things like natural peanut butter, avocados, olive oil, etc. Low blood pressure usually won't hurt you - both of my numbers are in double digits but I never have any such symptoms. Don't trust your health to people on answers; go see a doctor.

by cutting out meats which are high in fat and have many chemicals and hormones that aren't meant for the human body, cutting out dairy which is designed for calfs and was never intended for anything else to eat it, and cutting out eggs, you're blood pressure will be lowered because you're body will begin to heal itself and eat what it is supposed to be eating, such as sprouted organic nuts, greens like kale , you're body begins to cleanse itself and you're cholesterol levels will go down. it helps to cut sugar out too.
