If it were that simple the answer would be 25%. It is not that simple. Diabetes can skip generations by being in the recessive genetics and no one carrying the recessive genetics would show any trace of diabetes. Until we are better able to read people's genes/DNA your question must go unanswered. Scientists are only now identifying the DNA on the genes that produce diabetes and it will be awhile before you and all of your family members can be tested to see if you carry the hereditary factors.

We have a son, now 31, who was diagnosed Type 1 in 1987. We had no diabetes in our family and it is thought that he caught it from the Coxackie B4 virus.

The doctor told us that even if he married a diabetic woman, the chances that their children would inherit the gene is about 1 in 4.

My mom have had Type 1 since she was 9. Out of 5 siblings 3 of them have Type 1 diabetes.

She was told there was a 1 in 3 chance of her children getting it. So far so good, we haven't got it yet. But there are also some roumours that it tends to skip a generation although I have seen no actual research to support this.

I am a type 1 and I have been told by many doctors that my kids only have a 3 to 5 % chance of getting it. So your pretty safe.
