Since you are having the shower in December, you might be thinking more along the lines of holiday foods. Here are some ideas:

1. Soup: split pea with ham, beef barley, chicken noodle
2. Chili: traditional with beef, white chili with chicken
3. Panini's: turkey, green chili, and havarti; roast beef, cheddar, and horseradish sauce; grilled eggplant, sundried tomato, brie.
4. Pork Roast rubbed with sage, kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. Served with a sauce of white wine, dijon mustard, and thyme.
6. Side dishes: baked potato casserole, fresh green beans
7. Spaghetti and meatballs, green salad, french bread
8. Chicken skewers with peanut sauce; rice pilaf; mixed winter root vegetables
9. Quiche: green chili and white cheddar; ham and asparagas with jack cheese; mushroom and carmelized onion with shredded Italian cheeses
10. Chili Relleno's casserole, spanish rice, taco salad, steak quesadillas.

Bon Appetit!

Don't go too extravagant - you could end up cooking rather than enjoying the party, and at a baby shower the food is second on everyone's list so your efforts won't be appreciated!

Chili is good but might not be to everyone's taste as a) it's spicy, and b) it's meaty.

I suggest a finger food (less washing up!) like chicken fajitas - people can build their own food (so veggies can skip the chicken), have as much as they need, and not have the embarassment of leaving stuff as they would only pick what they need. Also if everyone ends up chatting for ages it's not a problem if it goes a little cold as most of the ingredients are cold anyway - with the warmth coming from the chicken mix and any spicy dips you lay on.

It also has the advantage in a busy party that anyone sat down has to get up to make up their food, meaning everyone moves around and chats to different people.

Don't forget you'll need napkins and I suggest you look up a good recipe on the internet - the "out of box" ones aren't that nice compared with a proper home-made and people Will notice the difference if only for a split second during baby talk! Making fajitas from fresh is as easy as using a box - you just need to know what to do.

Top tip is - you can never have too much guacamole or cheese!

Good luck!
