I would stop eating and hope that the snail was alone.

Well first you should have told us the circumstances. Were you in a resturant or where you eating at home, were the peas canned, etc.
If the peas were canned call the company who made them, this sort of thing does happen and they will take it from there you explain things without acting too dramatic or like you want to extort things and they will be helpful.
If you were in a resturant, you should have immediately called your waitor and the manager and shown them the snail. Unfortunately that can happen, a friend of mine found a roach in his food at a Mexican Resturant - well half of one. They should offer to bring you proper food if you still want to eat and pay for your meal and maybe give you a certificate to come back after apologizing. The day out of work is going to be tough unless you could show you had food poisoning or something. You could probably sue but I would suggest that you don't.

Yes, I would take the issue further. I like eating snails but they are not just tossed into a pan and cooked, they must be subject to several steps to ensure edibility. To find one in a dish where it is not supposed to be, indicates poor care and hygiene in the preparation so there may be other problems than just the snail.

I would call the waiter over and request to speak with the manager. I would show the manager the snail and then see what the manager does about it. I would expect not to be charged for the meal.
Short story -- Went to a restaurant on a Friday during lent, when Catholics are required not to eat meat. There were 6 of us at the table. I ordered shrimp and all of the other catholics at the table ordered some form of seafood. While I was eating, I found that there was a chicken nugget among the shrimp. I started talking loud enough for the waiter to come over and ask if there was a problem, I told him about the chicken and my religious beliefs. The manager came over, and apoligized for the mix up. I was only joking aound, and then I told him that now I was going to hell, because they had made me commit a mortal sin. After we finished eating, he gave us our meal for free, and then came up with 6 complimentary meal tickets. My wife and I went back there 3 times and ordered the most expensive things on the menu.
I just found that funny, since I wasn't really trying to get the free meal but the manager really must have felt bad about the mix up.

I don't think I'd bother really, snails don't make you ill (unless you eat the guts, and I doubt you did). I knew a couple in France and they'd collect the snails in their garden and keep them in a little wire net to eat!
Anyway, don't bother suing anyone, you chose not to go to work (I trust you weren't bed bound or anything?) so maybe write the pea-people a letter saying that you found a snail and that they ought to check out their peas, and if they offer you anything take it, but if not then just leave it.

Ask them what type of snail it was.Was it a culinary snail or were they being malicious or maybe it was an accident.Ask them questions. They may have put the snail in there with a motive.B.G.R.Bloomer deal with no win,no fee cases as advertised on Classic F.M.
It is important to know whether that snail is edible.I have eaten snails inFrance.

WOW -- did this happen while you were in a restaurant or take-out food? Either way, I would report it to the place where you got the food.
I know that snails can be a delicacy to some, but damn, how did it get in your meal to begin with. What if you were allergic to them?
Sorry to hear that you were ill. I have had food poisoning more times than I would like to remember, and it is definitely no joke.

If it was purposely put there as part of it, I wouldn't do anything, just be cautious when eating there again and request it without snails, but if it wasn't supposed to be there I'd completely freak. Take it to the limit. Seek compensation. Speak to the owner/manager. (But it really should not have made you all that ill if it was part of the mix, afterall it's not exactly poison)
I have ordered beans at one place and they put pig EARS in it, it was part of the beans, so I just never ate there again. I don't like pig ears, it grossed me out more than you know, but I wasn't physically ill, just grossed out mentally.
