Why is it that when someone says the tiniest, meaningless thing about meat, you all go off on one? Like with all the thumbs down and comments etc. etc.
I know it's not really a section to talk about meat and stuff but why do you get so worked up about it?

K, when I said I didn't get the point I meant it on this question. I asked why people get so many thumbs down, oh, and low and behold, they have on this question too. Why are you linking killing animals to killing babies? That's just sick.

Food is a passionate topic for discussion and the most primitive basic need for any human to survive.

As a person who eats meat , rather than the hate fulled term `meat eater` i have always had total respect for Veggie people, and as for Vegans(well the decent ones are good people and worthy of respect it's the pond scum preachy extremist peta types or as they like to call themselves true vegans i can simply not stand that life choice it's just too hypocritical and elitist to be taken seriously.

I can, and do get very angry at some of the extremists peta preaching types who use insults and hate-mongering to recruit more to the `cause`
again this is were it breaks down, those that have the luxury to choice their diets and then preach to others sickens me greatly for this very SIMPLE reason not all people can pick and chose what they need to eat to survive.

It worries me greatly that some of the more extremists would swerve to avoid hitting a rabbit running into a road, mount the curb and potentially kill a human and actually think that was morally ok as the animal is equal to a human.

Animals for example have played a key roll in the evolution of mankind, without using animals for our purpose we would probably, today still be in the trees eating our own fleas sniffing each other behinds.

How dare someone tell me how to live when other people have a daily fight just to survive this is why i get angry, just watch the thumbs down for the fact I am a person who eats meat.

I understand totally why you wanted to keep this fairly secret for now! I definitely do! You have a right to be angry, for sure. You trusted people with very special information, and they blew that trust totally out of the water. Having said that, I guess the decision you need to make is - is this situation worth potentially wrecking some relationships. If you throw a fit or something like that, likely someone will be hurt (along with you still) and that will probably lead to continued hurt feelings. My advice is that you should talk to the people that you told (and asked not to say anything) and explain to them how they have hurt you. After that, you need to decide what to do. Either let it go or hold onto it, obviously the damage is done, and when it comes down to it - YOU are the one you need to worry about, well, you and your partner. Good luck with this crappy situation!

The reason the meat answers get thumbs down is because for the most part they don't answer the question being asked. For example you asked why answering with "meat" got thumbs down for this question: plain and simple, answering "I like meat", or "meat taste yummy!!!!" is not an answer.

Answering about eating meat usually does not answer most questions asked in a vegetarian question forum. It would be like a vegetarian answering "I hate meat" to a question about cooking a pot roast.

Well, this is the Vegetarian and Vegan section, in case you haven't noticed. If someone asks about what foods one likes or what one had for lunch/dinner, the questioner probably doesn't want to see a litany of animal dishes (unless s/he placed it in the wrong category, in which case, s/he can always delete the question and put it in the right place) . Had the question been placed in the General Category and people mentioned animal foods, I wouldn't care. But if you knowingly go into the V&V, and you answer a question about food with "EAT STEAK," that's just rude and obnoxious, and you're going to get a thumbs down.

I get a little irritated at idiotic questions we answer over and over--such as the protein thing or the animal crackers thing or the "you're killing plants" thing because it's not a serious question, the person is being a jerk. The person should know the answer, as all these questions have been asked and answered numerous times.

Besides, isn't the goal of these meat-trolls to wind us up? You're getting what you want, so why are you kvetching?

I imagine it is because some people find it amusing to post provocative questions in this section just to get a reaction. Vegetarians and particularly vegans have to put up with uninformed bias a lot of the time, they shouldn't have to deal with it in their own section of YA. It's a shame, I asked a question on here about vegan recipes last week (admitting that I was a meat eater myself) and got a number of helpful and friendly replies from regular contributors.

It's just like if someone goes into a christian forum and says 'I hate Jesus' or a muslim one and says 'I hate Allah'.

I have no problem when people generally talk about liking meat... my whole family and all my friends are meat-eaters and I never get on their case about it. I do however, think it's unecessary to discuss meat in a v&v forum.

Honestly I don't get that worked up... if I see meat mentioned here I may give it a thumbs down but that's hardly getting angry... it just involves one click of my mouse. And I only give a thumbs down when people are deliberatly trying to get a reaction from their answer.

Some vegans don't like it when meat-eaters come to the vegan section to talk about meat for the same reason Yankees fans would get upset if Red Sox fans came to a section for Yankees fans.

Lamb, there are opinionated extremists wherever you turn. Know who you are, be confident and don't let other peoples' garbage get to you. This is just an informational site...so I suggest take the comments that you don't like with a grain of salt and those that are helpful to you...well perhaps moments like that will turn a frown upside down. ...Yes, I know that sounds corny but all I can say is be true to thine self and let the rest roll off your back. Time is far too precious to do otherwise.

simply because it happens to virtually every question.

Is the rest of the food and drink forum filled with vegetarians saying, in very meat question, just how morally wrong it is ? No, its not.

Its just tiresome, negative and distructive - exactly what the posters want.

For many of us, being vegetarian is a moral choice. For me its a nmoral choice that I've had for 27 years and its a core value for me. Akin to many peoples religion.

How long would i last in a "christian" forum if i went in there and answered every question with "Jesus - he's a loser" ??

To me, its just as insulting.

All the unnecessary generalistic insulting answers here give you plenty of evidence as to who is worse......

Okay, a few quotes I want to point out from others who answer, mainly because these quotes get repeated on a daily and sometimes hourly basis. "because they are holier than thou " and "vegans and vegetarians believe that they are somehow superior to people who eat meat, and they're also very preachy about their vegan/vegetarian lifestyle." These quotes are perfect examples of discriminatory supression. Some people who eat meat, and many who frequently visit the V&V forum try to make themselves seem as though they are the victim and they are getting bullied by vegetarians. The rediculous fallacy deems them hypocritical when they in turn return with comments such as "BEEF!!! It's what's for dinner!" Or "ooooooooh meat, where? " Another quote that they frequently use is "some people try to force their opinions onto others which shows they have a lack of respect for other peoples choices." With all the commercials for burgers, chicken, beef, meat lovers pizza's, fish sandwiches, ect on TV or advertisements everywhere for meat to me it seems the other way around. People don't get offended when the American Heart Association or The American Diabetics Association talks about the dangers of eating meat and the value of vegetables so why should they get offended when someone else tries to tell a person how their life has improved from eating a vegetarian diet or if they inform someone of how their food is made. So what these people are really saying is that it's okay for meat eaters to force their lifestyle on someone and advertise it but it's not okay for a vegetarian to do it or even to make it known they are vegetarians. It seems the road runs both ways and in my view there's an extra lane or two on the meat eating side. I also find it very hard to believe that all the vegetarians in the world are hanging out around these people. I have only met one other vegetarian in my life and never a vegan so I don't see how these people can make any justifiable conclusion on the behavior and attitude of a vegetarian or vegan. These assumptions are simply that, assumptions, and nothing more. They assume that since Hollywood portrays vegans and vegetarians one way that is how they must be without even meeting one. In other words they hate us before they even know us. This is why we are discriminated against, this is why so many people jump on the defense, and this is why so many people have such a close- mind to the idea that a vegetarian lifestyle can and is healthy.
