It's called "syncope" and is quite common, particularly among adolescents, and more so in femaes than males.

Not a great deal is known why some people are 'FAINTERS'and others aren't, -so your doctor isn't likely to be much help I'm afraid. But much research is being done,
(you can google PUMMA -Oxford University, for an excellent site of a leading research group).

But basically, though your doctor can't help much, he is actually right, -it's not dangerous (unless you do it under a bus!) and most people grow out of it after adolescence.
(mind you, that's what they said about my acne, but it took 40 years!!)

Avoid standing for long times (in queues, for instance), rising suddenly after being sedentary, or after big meals. Basically the blood stays where it is (inertia) while your body (particlarly the brain) moves up, and the pressures driving blood into and through your brain become too low.
Remember how Guardsmen on Parade keep falling like flies, while standing to attention? It's the same cardiovascular mechanism.

You can spend lots of money paying Cardiologists and other specialists, but honestly, you'll be wasting it and your time. Some people faint, -others don't,...it's that simple, just as some have spots and red hair and others are bald and cross-eyed......we're all different, but some are more different than others!

You need to think about what you were doing when you fainted, and what you were feeling before you fainted - maybe you can give the doctors a little more information to determine what is causing this. A person who is healthy can faint from low blood sugar, a sudden drop in blood pressure when rapidly standing up after sitting or lying down, and from hyperventilation caused by anxiety. If you are dieting, skipped a meal, or ate a bunch of sugary food, these can all cause someone to faint.

The symptoms you added sound like low blood sugars or diabetes. You need to have a glucose tolerance test. In the mean time, eat a small snack if you fell these problems coming on. Avoid sugary snacks - things like bananas and carrots are good foods for managing blood sugar.

I dont know your age. Fainting spells are NOT normal. It could be a weak mitral valve in your heart. There are many reasons for fainting. Google or go to WedMD or Wrong Diagnosis.com and look up the many causes of fainting. If your doc wont address the issue, ask mom to take you for another opinion. Hope this helps. Hope you are not pregnant.

Please don't listen to anyone who says you don't need another doctor's opinion. This might be nothing, but you DON'T want to take any chances. I had a cardiologist tell me my heart was fine. He did two heart caths last year and after a over a year of crushing chest pains, I found a doctor who knew what he was doing and I had double bypass surgery in April.

My best friend had the same problem...turns out she was hypotensive (experiencing drops in her blood pressure). There are meds they can give you for this...certain beta-blockers, I believe...you should see a cardiologist for a more definative diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
