Is there an innovative air conditioner which does not emit those harmful gases? I get a few hits in Google about natural air conditioners, which works based on pumping the water. I do not have the complete details though. Any ideas please?

PS: I know there are natural air conditioners like Swiss etc, so please give alternates ;-) based on technology.

Air conditioners do not emit a chemical exhaust. It's a sealed unit and would only emit freon to the air if there's a leak in the unit. I have worked on geothermal units that uses ground water to heat and cool. I don't know for certain if they save energy because they use pumps to cycle the water. I was an air conditioning mechanic for 31 years and worked for the federal government. I worked on geothermal for a couple of years.

If by natural air conditioner, you are talking about swamp coolers or evaporative air coolers, those don't work very well in humid environments. If you are in a dry climate, you should be fine too use one, and should be able to find one easily.

As for people who think we should just take the air as it is, some of us can't. I get very ill when it is hot and humid out, and my idea of hot is quite low due to things I have no desire to get into. Without air conditioning some of us get frighteningly sick. I can't even take a hot shower anymore. So, on this point, the environment loses. It would be nice to have a day when I can use something to cool my house that doesn't use so much energy. I'll be first on line when it exists.

Properly operating air conditioners do not emit any chemicals at all. And there is no such thing as a natural air conditioner. Not Swiss. Not any kind.

cooling towers they have been around for years, say build a 2 square foot tower 25 foot tall, put a water proof bottom in it, to recycles the water to the head( need a good pump) you have a duct into your house 2-3 foot above the water and such a way as to drip condensation back into the tub,, anyhow, pump the water up to sprayers which mist the water and let it fall back to earth, this pushes the cooled air down ( heat rises ) and into your house, the at the roof line have some vents to push the hot air outside,

they have ammonia refrigerators for RV's never heard of a home unit yet though

Air conditioning is in fact refrigeration and doesn't belong in your building unless you have special circumstances.

Exterior, solar exposed walls are generating extreme heat that is transferring inside the building and from there you are treating a heat symptom with air conditioning.

Use shade cover from trees, vines or UV resistant coatings on the exterior of your building and there isn't a need for any air conditioning. Geo thermal or any heating system is going to function according to the building envelope which is the exterior walls, roof and floor. Geo thermal gives the illusion of savings because it is cheaper energy.

Why do you need an A/C? Accept the air as it is, and live totally "green" without the need to change the immediate environment to suit yourself.
