I think that's an oxymoron. People who eat shrimp are, by definition, not vegetarians.

That they're severely mistaken. Vegetarians do NOT eat the flesh of any living creature, and that would include shrimp.

Shrimp is an animal. I don't see how eating an animal is compatible with calling oneself a vegetarian.

A vegetarian does not eat Shrimp.
Perhaps you could let them know.

soem people reduce the meaty part of thier diet to fish, on the way to becoming vegetarian and thats a good step, but to call yourself vegetarian you would have to exclude all meat, fish, poultry and slaughter by-products.

That they have the choice to do so. FREEDOM.
In the John Robbins books he talk about the different long lived healthy societies under study. Some of them eat wild fish(rarely), consume dairy & on feast days even meat. Of course we are not talking about the dairy you get at the local market of the hormone injected meat for the store. And we are certainly not talking about the massive quanities eaten here in the USA.
A 100% Vegan/Veggie diet is best, proven over & over.

I stopped eating certain meats (beef, poultry and pork) because of health reasons. I was calling myself Vegetarian, but it was pointed out that eating seafood means that I cannot call myself that...
It's difficult to explain to some others, but if someone asks, I don't use a "label" I simply say that I eat seafood, but not other meats.

they arent vegetarian, shrimp is a type of fish which is a type of animal, so you killed something to have your dinner, thats not vegetarian, sorry to burts your bubble
