A girl has to climb 12,000 miles up a mountain. she plans to climb 3,000 miles per day. A spirit comes and moves her down the mountain each night 2000 miles. How many days does it take her to reach the top.

10 days. She is at 9000 after 9 days, on the 10th day she reaches the top. This is quite a mountain.

The top of Mt. Everest is only 5 & 1/2 miles above sea level. Even if you measure the Hawaiian volcano Mauna Kea from the bottom of the Pacific ocean it is only 6 & 1/3 miles high. Olympus Mons on Mars is 15 miles high. I realize you are asking a math question, but doesn't the positer of a question have a duty to keep it real?

Hmmm..you probably mean "feet" instead of "miles", but that really doesn't change the math.

If she climbs 3,000 units per day and is brought down 2,000 units per day, she is only climbing a net 1,000 units per day. If she needs to climb 12,000 units at 1,000 units per day, it will take her 12 days to get to the top.
